Haarer, Gladys Ellen Troyer

MIDDLEBURY - Gladys Ellen Troyer Haarer, 84, of Middlebury, died at 3:08 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at her residence following a short battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 4, 1933, in Madison County, Ohio, to Valentine and Barbara (Yoder) Schrock.
On Dec. 16, 1951, in Elkhart County, she married William Troyer. He died May 20, 1997. They were owner-operators of Indian Prairie Materials Inc.
On June 28, 2015, in Shipshewana, she married Paul Haarer; he survives.
Survivors in addition to her husband are two daughters, Marjana (Richard) Tribble of Sturgis, Michigan, and Marcy (Mike) Gabriel of Bradenton, Florida; two sons, Morris (Shirley) Troyer of Middlebury and Mark (Grace) Troyer of Anderson; 14 grandchildren, Rick, Ryan, Robert and Rustin Tribble, Evan, Brian and Aaron Troyer and Rachel Mitchell, Stephen, Amanda, Kevin and Daniel Troyer and Thomas and Madelyn Gabriel; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Perry) Marner of LaGrange; three brothers, Floyd (Darla) Schrock of LaPorte, Ernie (Jan) Schrock of Fort Wayne and Glenn Schrock of Finley, Ohio; sister-in-law Rodean Schrock of Goshen; stepdaughter Rebecca Haarer of Shipshewana; stepson Charles (Barbara) Haarer of Middlebury; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband; daughter Maxine Elaine Troyer on Nov. 7, 1982; parents; three sisters, Viola Schrock, Gertrude Gingerich and Alberta Miller; and three brothers, Reuben, Lawrence, and Vernon Schrock.
She was the business manager at Indian Prairie and a homemaker.
She was a member of Marion Mennonite Church in Shipshewana and Bahia Vista Mennonite Church in Sarasota, Florida.
She loved gardening, sewing, quilting and cooking.
She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury.
Family and friends will gather at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8, for a graveside service at Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.
A celebration of life service will follow at 3 p.m. at Marion Christian Fellowship, Shipshewana.
Services will be conducted by Pastors Ron and Char Roth.
Memorials may be given to the Maxine Elaine Troyer Scholarship Fund at Eastern Mennonite University.
Haldeman, John E., 86, of Denver, formerly of Ephrata, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.
He was born in Manheim to the late Harold G. and Kathryn (Schaeffer) Haldeman and was the husband of the late Emma L. (Hess) Haldeman who died in 1996.
He was a member of the Worship Center in Leola. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and spending winters in Florida.
John served in the U.S. Army, was a dairy farmer, worked for Dutchman Construction for many years, and retired from Martin Limestone.
John is survived by 3 children, Calvin E., husband of Kenosha (Weaver) Haldeman of Denver, Harold L., husband of Cheryl (Ziemer) Haldeman of Bowmansville, and Tawnya R., wife of Dale Stauffer of Lititz; 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and 2nd wife, he was preceded in death by 1st wife, Florence (Stump) Haldeman who died in 1964; 4 sisters, Beatrice Lied, Helen Fisher, Mary Haldeman and Arlene Thompson; 2 brothers, Harold and Ralph Haldeman, and 2 infant siblings. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, from 8:30 to 10:00 am at the Worship Center, 2384 New Holland Pike, Lancaster. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 am, with Pastor Sam Smucker officiating. Interment will take place in the Brickerville Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Haldeman, Milton Samuel, 72, of Ephrata, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus at home, with his wife by his side, on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, after a courageous 5 1/2 month battle with Renal Cell Carcinoma.
Milton was born in East Cocalico Twp., the second of six children born to the late Raymond Ludwig and Vera (Good) Haldeman.
Milton began his working life at Miller & Hess Shoe Company in Akron and retired from Case New Holland in 2005, after 35 years of service. After retirement, he devoted himself to his favorite hobby, genealogy. He authored a Christopher Haldeman genealogy book that traced his family lineage back 11 generations to his immigrant ancestors.
He was a member of Red Run Mennonite Church, Cocalico Valley Historical Society, the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society and Grave Concerns. He enjoyed restoring damaged gravestones and restored dozens of headstones in the county.
Milton is survived by wife of 52 years, Lorraine (Zimmerman) Haldeman; six children, Michael (Beth), Samuel (Renee), Frederick (Teresa), Loretta Huber (Curvin), Susan Shirk (Wilson), and Timothy Haldeman.
He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; three siblings, Mary Jane Nissly (Harry), Harvey Haldeman (Dorothy), Robert Haldeman; two sisters-in-law, Janice Haldeman and Verna Haldeman, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Harry Haldeman.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 PM, at the Parkview Mennonite Church, 57 E. Church Street, Reamstown. An additional viewing will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 9 to 10 AM at the church followed by funeral services at 10 AM with Pastor Mel Weaver officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Halteman, Paul N., 91, of Souderton, Montgomery Co., PA died May 1, 2018 at the same place.
He was born January 25, 1927 at Harleysville, Montgomery Co., PA to John S. and Mary (Nice) Halteman. John died in 1927. Mary was born January 19, 1897 and died January 9, 1990.
On April 10, 1948 at Franconia, Montgomery Co., PA he was married to Arlene Moyer, who was born October 6, 1929 and survives.
Surviving are children, Steven Paul Halteman and wife Darlene Brian Halteman and wife Sharon; Joanne Stauffer and husband Dennis; and Betsy Gehman and husband Martin; ten grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Aldus Halteman.
His siblings, Elwood Halteman, Raymond Halteman, Verna Halteman, and Ada Halteman preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held May 6, 2018 at Franconia Mennonite Church, Telford, Montgomery Co., PA with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Harder, Edgar John, 89, of Whitewater, Butler Co., KS died May 9, 2018 at the same place. He was born July 22, 1928 at Newton, Harvey Co., KS to John S. and Emilie Harder. On June 18, 1953 he was married to Agnes Wiebe, who survives.
Surviving are children, Diana (Marlin) Thiessen, Kenton Harder, Stanley (Jeanette) Harder; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elfrieda Harder.
A sister, Linda Harder preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held May 14, 2018 at Grace Hill Mennonite Church, Whitewater, KS with burial in Emmaus Cemetery, Whitewater, KS.
Harnish, Kathryn Widders, 89, formerly of Willow Street went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Landis Homes. Born March 3, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Bertha (Stauffer) Widders. She was married to her husband Parke K. Harnish for 64 years until his death in 2012.
Kathryn and her husband operated an IGA store in the early years of their marriage. She worked for many years at Southern and Central Markets and for Herr's Dry Cleaning in Willow Street. She enjoyed making baby blankets and quilts for her family, sharing produce from her garden, reading, playing games and completing word finds. She crocheted hundreds of hats that were sent overseas for newborns. She was a member of Willow Street Mennonite Church and participated in their Sewing Circle. She was a generous wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished times spent with her family.
She is survived by two sons and their wives: Robert L. married to Brenda (Moser) Harnish of Croghan, NY, and Herbert L. married to Ruth (Breneman) Harnish of Willow Street; two daughters and their husbands: Kathy H. married to David E. Landis of Lampeter, and Debra J. married to J. Edwin Kilheffer of Millersville; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer K. (Straley) married to Dwight E. Rohrer, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A brother, Irwin Widders of Lititz, also survives her. A son, Steven L. Harnish, three sisters, Edith Boll, Verna Noll, and Mabel Neff and a brother, Isaac Widders, preceded her in death.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Willow Street Mennonite Church, 399 E. Penn Grant Road, Willow Street, PA with Pastor Joe Sherer officiating. A viewing will be held at the West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543 on Sunday evening, February 18, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., and at the church on Monday from 9:30 A.M until the time of the service. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery.
Hartzler, Mamie Kauffman, 104, a resident of Harman House at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community since November 2013, died on Saturday, July 14. With a ready smile and easy laughter, she was a much loved mother and resident at the nursing home.
A daughter of the late Daniel and Amanda Spichear Kauffman, she was born on June 14, 1914, and grew up on a farm in New Wilmington, Pa. On Nov. 24, 1938, she married Cecil Clayton Hartzler and moved to Belleville, Pa., where they raised five daughters. During their married life, she was a busy homemaker, child caretaker, gardener and hostess. She canned hundreds of jars of food for the growing family. She also was an excellent seamstress and quilter. In addition, she marked quilts from her rich quilt pattern collection for many other quilters. She took Bible courses at Eastern Mennonite College, as well as in Archbold, Ohio, and the Belleville area. She also took care of the paperwork and payroll for her husband’s painting business.
Clayton preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1972. For many years she regularly attended the Belleville Senior Citizens Center and participated with other seniors in completing volunteer tasks, such as stuffing envelopes for community agencies. In 1987 she moved to Heritage Haven at VMRC, where she lived for 27 years. During these years, she volunteered at Heritage Haven and made many beautiful quilts and embroidered items that were sold at charitable auctions, given as gifts, or given to her family, including baby quilts to all grandchildren and great- or great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Conley of Yorktown, Va., Beryl Brubaker and husband, Mark, of Harrisonburg, Va., Martha McGinnis and husband, Jim, of Kansas City, Kan., and Mary Laub of Lewistown, Pa. One daughter, Ruth May of Broadway, Va., preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 2015. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Of her brothers and sisters and in-laws, only one remains, brother-in-law Ralph Miller of Greenwood, Del.
She will be remembered as a strong woman by her daughters, especially annually on June 14, her birthday, when the nation flies the flag, they believe in recognition of this resilient woman.
She was a member of Park View Mennonite Church. A memorial service will be held at Strite Auditorium at VMRC at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, with Pastor Phil Kniss presiding. The family may be greeted there in the hour preceding the service or during a reception after the service. Her body will be transported to the Belleville, Pa., area where she will be buried next to her husband. Arrangements are being handled by Kyger Funeral Home and by Henderson Funeral Home in Belleville.

Hartzler, Mamie Kauffman, 104, of Harrisonburg, VA died July 14, 2018 at Virginia Menn. Retirement Center, Harrisonburg, VA. She was born June 14, 1914 at New Wilmington, PA to Daniel and Amanda (Spichear) Kauffman. On November 24, 1938 at Belleville, PA she was married to Cecil Clayton Hartzler, who died January 15, 1972.
Surviving are children, Carolyn Conley; Beryl Brubaker (Mark); Martha McGinnis (Jim); and Mary Laub; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Ruth May, preceded her in death.
Mamie was an avid gardener, hostess, loved canning and preserving garden produce, and quilting.

Hazlett, Beverly A., 82, of Naples, FL died June 27, 2018. She was born June 9, 1936. On June 15, 1957 she was married to Joseph M. Hazlett, who was born June 28, 1931 and survives.
Surviving are children, Joseph Mark Hazlett, II, and wife Michelle; James Michael Hazlett and wife "Sam;" and John McFarland Hazlett and wife Elena; Mai Ann Hazlett; and Jennifer Hazlett Kryzanowski and husband David; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
Hazlett, Joseph M., 87, of Naples, FL died August 21, 2018. He was born June 28, 1931 to Mark "Mick" and Helen Hazlett. On June 15, 1957 he was married to Beverly A. Hazlett, who was born June 9, 1936 and died June 27, 2018.
Surviving are children, Joseph Mark Hazlett, II, and wife Michelle; James Michael Hazlett and wife "Sam;" and John McFarland Hazlett and wife Elena; Mai Ann Hazlett; and Jennifer Hazlett Kryzanowski and husband David; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A brother, John Hazlett preceded him in death.
Headings, Dorothy Jean Yoder, 78, of Harrisonburg, VA died December 27, 2018 at the same place. She was born January 21, 1940 at Belleville, Mifflin Co., PA to George Elrose and Ruth (Kaufman) Yoder. On August 2, 1963 she was married to Richard Lee Headings, who is deceased.
Surviving are children, Lauri Headings Whyte (Tom) and Kevin Headings; five grandchildren, and two sisters, Iva Yoder and Effie Spicher.
Memorial services were held January 4, 2019 at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, VA with burial in Lindale Mennonite Church Cemetery, Linville, VA.

Dorothy Jean Yoder Headings, 78, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away at home in the presence of loved ones on December 27th, 2018. Dorothy was born on January 21st, 1940 in Belleville, Pennsylvania. The daughter of George Elrose Yoder and Ruth Kaufman Yoder, she grew up on a farm in Allensville, Pennsylvania.
She obtained her nursing degree at Eastern Mennonite College where she met the late Richard Lee Headings. They married on August 2nd, 1963 and moved to Oregon where Dorothy was a nurse for the Lebanon Clinic and Dick became pastor of the Lebanon Mennonite Church. Their children, Lauri and Kevin were born and raised there. In 1991 Dorothy and Dick moved to Hesston Kansas where Dorothy worked as a nurse in Showalter Villa and Dick served as Conference Minister for the South-Central Mennonite Conference. In 2000 they moved to Harrisonburg, Virginia, where Dorothy was employed as a receptionist for Sunnyside Retirement Community and Dick pastored at Ridgeway Mennonite Church.
Dorothy loved her grandchildren and cats, singing and playing the piano in church, playing card games, visiting the North Carolina coast with her "beach buddies," enjoying beautiful places, and fresh air. Her ringing laughter, her courage and her playfulness will always be remembered.
She is survived and missed by her two older sisters, Iva Yoder and Effie Spicher of Belleville, Pennsylvania, her daughter Lauri Headings Whyte of Boone, North Carolina, her son Kevin Headings of Hermiston, Oregon, and five grandchildren, Sadie and Alice Whyte and Tavin, Simon, and Lucy Headings.
Memorial services will be held at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church on Friday, January 4th, at 11:00. Burial will be in Lindale Mennonite Church Cemetery in Edom, Virginia. Kyger Funeral Home of Harrisonburg is handling the arrangements. The family visitation will be at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church on Thursday, January 3rd, at 6pm.
Heatwole, Kathryn Suter
Sept. 24, 1928 - July 1, 2018
Kathryn Suter Heatwole, 89, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away July 1, 2018. Mrs. Heatwole was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Harrisonburg and was the daughter of the late Homer R. and Orpha Blosser Suter.
Kathryn was a lifelong homemaker. She volunteered for several organizations. She was also well known for making hundreds of flannel blankets for infants and crocheting lap robes for the fellow residents of VMRC. She was a member of Dayton Mennonite Church. She loved to eat ice cream.
On Oct. 14, 1948, she married Dewitt Heatwole, who preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1993.
Surviving are her children, Leo Heatwole and wife, Ruthanne Janzen of Harrisonburg, Eldon Heatwole and wife, Sharon of Goshen, Ind., Lois Heatwole Gray and husband, John, of Harrisonburg and Mary Kay Heatwole of Harrisonburg; grandchildren, Shelly Kirkendall and husband, Brad, Jason Heatwole and wife, Erin, Carmen Miller and husband, Chad, and Christy Kauffman and husband, Ryan; a stepgrandson, Ryan Garber and wife, Thaona; great-grandchildren, Braden Kirkendall, Conner Kirkendall, Caroline Kirkendall, Ginny Miller, Clint Miller and Ezra Kauffman; and a stepgreat-grandchild, Isla Garber.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Heatwole was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Deputy, and a daughter-in-law, Carol Goshow Heatwole.
Chaplains Steve Landis and Eric Martin will conduct a memorial service Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Strite Auditorium at VMRC. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be held privately.
Family and friends are welcome to visit the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. to view and sign the register book.

Heatwole, Lester Gabriel, 82, of Bartow, W.Va., completed his earthly journey Sept. 19, 2018, at his home. He was born Nov. 8, 1935, in Dayton, Va., to the late Eli D. and Annie (Rhodes) Heatwole.
On Sept. 21, 1956, he married Ellen Mae Keener of Harrisonburg, Va., who survives.
Lester spent most of his life as a dairy farmer in Rockingham County, Va. He was ordained as a minister in 1969 and bishop in 1980 for Southeastern Mennonite Conference. He was actively involved in beginning their Christian Day schools. He also assisted in starting mission churches in Puerto Rico. He was very active in other areas of church life as well. Upon retiring from the ministry and farming, they moved to Bartow, W.Va., to be near their daughter. There he spent many happy hours sorting used clothing for Christian Aid Ministries.
For 21 years the hand of “Mr. Parkinson’s” tightly gripped his, but God’s grace was sufficient.
Surviving are five children, Laura (Wendell) Rohrer of Bartow, W.Va., Glenn (Fern) Heatwole of McDowell, Va., Weldon (Mary Ethel) Heatwole of Elkton, Va., Philip Heatwole (Ramona, deceased) of Grottoes, Va., and Leroy (Rhonda) Heatwole of Elkton, Va.; also 22 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are nine siblings, Norma Petre (Va.), Arlene Yoder (Pa.), Milton Heatwole (Va.), Betty Shenk (Ohio), John Heatwole (Va.), Stanley Heatwole (Va.), Marvin Heatwole (Pa.), Hettie Barnhart (Ga.), and Reba Hewitt (Va.).
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Ivan, Clara, and Jacob Heatwole and a daughter-in-law.
Hege, Aldus E., 89, of Greencastle, Pa., passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at his home. Born July 6, 1928, in Reid, Md., he was the son of the late Ira E. Hege and Martha G. Hege. He was a member of Reiff Mennonite Church and a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Esther M. (Eby) Hege; six children, Aldus D. Hege and wife, Ruth, of Ohio, Louise D. Williams and husband, Harold, of Williamsport, Md., Daniel I. Hege and wife, Rachel, of Waynesboro, Pa., Ruth Ann Horst and husband, Wayne, of Hagerstown, Leonard R. Hege and wife, Sarah, of Greencastle, and Joel E. Hege and wife, Rhoda, of Greencastle; 45 grandchildren; 137 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edna Martin and husband, Leroy, of Hagerstown, Martha Hege of Maugansville, Md., and Ella Diller and husband, I. Lester, of Waynesboro; and one brother, Ira J. Hege and wife, Vera, of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth (Eby) Hege, in 1988; and four sisters, Iva Weber, Grace Miller, Cora Eby and Ada Petre.
Services will be Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Reiff Mennonite Church, 17433 Reiff Church Road, Hagerstown, with the church ministry officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Reiff Mennonite Church.
Hege, Ella Zimmerman

Ella Lois (Zimmerman) Hege, 87 years, 10 months, and 12 days of rural Richland Center, died peacefully in her home on Monday, July 9, 2018 .
She was born on August 27, 1930 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania daughter of Noah and Alice Zimmerman.
She is survived by her 8 children, Joy (Gary) Butikofer of Richland Center, WI, N. Warren (Dorothy) of Richland Center, WI, David (Lois) of LaFarge, WI, Lois (Robert) Loewen of Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada, Stephen (Alta) of Long Lake, SD, Simeon (Louise) of Free Union, VA, Sam (Twila) of Littlefork, MN, Eunice (Darwin) Hostetler of Richland Center, WI, 39 Grandchildren, and 46 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by 5 siblings.
She was preceded in death by her husband Noah Hege, 1 grandson Robert Hege, and her parents.
Visitation will be at Lighthouse Chapel 345 S. Cairns Ave., Richland Center, WI on July 13 from 4-8 P.M. Funeral will be at 10 A.M. at Lighthouse Chapel with public viewing from 8:30-9:30 prior to the Funeral.
Helmuth, Galen J., 47, of Goshen, died at 6:45 pm on Friday, May 11, at the scene of an automobile accident on County Road 27, Goshen. He was born on November 9, 1970 in Goshen to Joseph and Lydian (Zehr) Helmuth. On September 18, 1991 in Middlebury he married Carolyn A. Lehman, she
survives.

He was preceded in death by his father. Galen was the co-owner of Wild Wood Millworks, Goshen; he had also worked 25 years for Carriage, Millersburg. He had attended Sugar Grove Church, Goshen.

Herr, Joanne R. Stoner, 84, of New Providence, entered into rest unexpectedly on Friday, December 14, 2018, at her home. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Rutt) Stoner. She was married to the late John R. Herr, who died in 2017.
Joanne was the hardworking mother of six children. A large part of her life was spent helping her husband on the family farm in Providence Township. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed bird watching. She was especially fond of Cardinals. Joanne was an active member of Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church, where she regularly participated in the sewing circle.
She is survived by 6 children: David L., (Diane) of New Providence; John R., (Carol) of Quarryville; Gordon E., (Joyce) of Linden, WI; Steven M., (Nancy) of New Providence; Julie A., (Scott Hess) of Lancaster; and Timothy W., of New Providence; 12 grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Stoner and a sister, Violet Mowrer. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Norine M. Herr and a grandson, Nicholas Herr.
Funeral services will take place at Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church, 735 Church Rd., Quarryville, PA on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Herr, Mary Jane Rutt, 93, formerly of Lampeter, peacefully entered her eternal heavenly home on Saturday, June 16, 2018. She most recently resided at Fairmount Homes, Ephrata, Pa.
Along with her husband, the late Glenn G. Herr, Mary Jane enjoyed assisting in the family flower business, the former Herr's Flowers, Lampeter. She was known to brighten many with her cheery floral deliveries.
Mary Jane enjoyed being with her family, had a fun sense of humor, and was a devoted member of Willow Street Mennonite Church.
Born in Strasburg, Mary Jane was the daughter of the late Elmer and Anna (Martin) Rutt.
She is survived by daughters, Marlene - wife of Robert Groff of Leola, Carol - wife of Daniel Neff, Manheim; a son, Dan - husband of Carolyn Herr, Lampeter; 12 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, David M. Rutt.

GOSHEN - Ida Herschberger, 98, of Goshen, died Sunday, May 20, 2018.
She was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Middlebury, to John I. and Barbara (Miller) Bontrager.
She married Jonas A. Herschberger; he died March 19, 1986.
Surviving are sons Ervin (Betty) and Glenn (Sharon) Herschberger; daughters Joyce Bell, Gloria (Kevin) Mast and Sharon Herschberger; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lydia Mae Kauffman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant son, Omer Ray Herschberger; six brothers; and five sisters.
Ida was a homemaker and member of the First Mennonite Church, Middlebury, where she had been active in the sewing circle.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury.

NAPPANEE - Henry D. Hershberger, 77, of Nappanee, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 6:18 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, at Bremen Community Hospital.
He was born April 4, 1941, in Kalona, Iowa, to Daniel J. and Mary (Helmuth) Hershberger. On March 31, 1972, he married Alma Kaufman in Bremen.
Mr. Hershberger lived his married life in the Nappanee area. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Mr. Hershberger is survived by his wife, Alma; sons Dwight (Christina) Hershberger of Shipshewana, Benjamin (Michelle) Hershberger of Wakarusa, Isaac Hershberger of Sarasota, Florida, and Philip (Sara) Hershberger of Nappanee; daughters Rachel Hershberger, Esther (Kevin) Miller and Kara (Paul) Rexroth, all of Nappanee, Debra (Matthew) Miller of Dundee, Ohio, and Rebecca Hershberger of New Paris; 22 grandchildren; brother Isaac D. Hershberger of Riverside, Iowa; brother-in-law Jonas (Dorothy) Kinsinger of Oakland, Maryland; and sister-in-law Annie Hershberger of Bloomfield, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Reuben and Tobias Hershberger; and sisters Lois Brennaman, Ida Kinsinger and Katie Hershberger.

Tillman Lee Hershberger, 87, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at his home in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorla Kay, daughters Jyl Neufeld (Ron) of Nashville, TN, Janna Pastin (Dino) of Brentwood, TN, Judith Clark (Jon) of Owens Cross Roads, AL, Jennifer Frey (Gary) of Charlotte, NC, and son, JD (Diane) of Newton, KS, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Veva Garber, Erma Janzen and Lila Garber and one brother, Abner.
Born to Edward and Alma Hershberger on December 20, 1930, the seventh of ten children, Tillman was raised in Milford, NE and Casselton, ND and attended Hesston Academy and Hesston College in Hesston, KS. Early adventures included two years of voluntary service in Puerto Rico. He later made mission trips to Haiti with his church family and volunteered at 10,000 Villages in Black Mountain, NC.
Tillman met his wife, Dorla Kay, at a Brunk Revival in 1954. They married on January 1, 1959. He adopted Dorla's two daughters Jyl and Janna and the family grew quickly, adding three more children, while he farmed in North Dakota until 1969 when he moved his family to Hesston, Kansas where they lived for 45 years. He worked at Hay and Forage as a field test engineer for twenty-five years. In 2014, Tillman and Dorla moved to Alabama.
Tillman's faith in Jesus Christ was very important to him. He served churches in North Dakota and Kansas as music director and in countless other ways. His passions included farming, trains, singing, woodworking, storytelling (especially over a cup of coffee), and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Weldon, Vilas and Erlis, sisters Berdella and Lydia, and his beloved nephew Dean Hershberger.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23 at 2:00 p.m. at New Salem Baptist Church in Owens Cross Roads, AL.
Hershey, Elizabeth Denlinger, 106, a 26 year resident of Landis Homes, died at the home on Sunday, May 27, 2018.
She was married 26 years to the late Raymond A. Hershey who died in 1989. Born in Leacock, Twp., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Amy Groff Denlinger.
Prior to her marriage, Elizabeth spent time with Eastern Mennonite Missions serving as a missionary in Florida. She was a member of Grace Point Church of Paradise, formerly Paradise Mennonite Church.
Surviving are two step-daughters, Marian Hollinger of New Holland, and Norma Martin of Lititz; six step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, and 11 step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by nine siblings.
The family would like to thank the staff of Landis Homes for the wonderful care they provided to Elizabeth over the last number of years.

Hertzler, Agnes Pearl Bupp, age 96, formerly of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Claremont Nursing Center in Carlisle. Born July 30, 1921 in York, PA she was a daughter of the late George T. and Eva A. (Burkenheiser) Bupp.
Agnes was a member of Slate Hill Mennonite Church in Camp Hill where she served as a children’s Sunday school teacher and participated in the sewing circle. In addition Agnes was a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
Agnes was preceded in death in 2011 by her loving husband of almost 68 years Russel H. Hertzler, Sr. and by her three brothers Joseph, James and George Bupp and by her two sisters Rosie Dick and Ethel V. Miller.
She is survived by her three children Lois Diller and husband Ralph of Wellsville, PA; Russel H. Hertzler, Jr. of Dallastown, PA and Evelyn E. Miller of Franklintown, PA; a sister Helen Veneable and husband John of York, PA; 9 grandchildren Gregory Diller, Kendra Lukens, Neil Hertzler, Brenda Gerber, Brad, Rodney and Aimee Hertzler, Travis and Brent Miller; 21 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Slate Hill Mennonite Church, with her Pastor The Rev. W. Lynn Shertzer officiating. Viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday at her church. Burial will take place at Slate Hill Cemetery.
Hertzler, Allen Glen, 97, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018. Mr. Hertzler was born Oct. 16, 1920, in Newport News and was the son of the late Moses Levi and Anna Belle Wenger Hertzler.
He was a dairy farmer and served as president of the Virginia Brown Swiss Association. He enjoyed volunteering at Gift and Thrift and was also a member of the Belmont Ruritan Club. He was a member of Weavers Mennonite Church.
Surviving are his children, Leslie Allen Hertzler and wife, Glenna, of Harrisonburg, Kathryn Joyce Seward and husband, Gary, of Punta Gorda, Fla., Marie Alice Hertzler and husband, Brian Maughan, of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Ashton Lee Hertzler of Elkton and Willis Ray Hertzler of Timberville; grandchildren, Lindsay Hollander and husband, Graham, Patrick Hertzler, Craig Kornhaus and wife, Valeriia, Cindi Martin and husband, Phillip, Mackenzie Hertzler and Luke Hertzler; and great-grandchildren, Joshua Hollander, Aubrey Martin, Avery Martin and Phillip Martin Jr.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hertzler was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Kenneth Hertzler, and his siblings, Mary Grove, Charles Hertzler, Vernon Hertzler, Elsie Rohrer and Velma Garnand.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Strite Auditorium at VMRC with pastors Phil Kanagy and Michael Shenk officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held privately.

Hess, Clarke E., 64, of Lititz, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 7, 2018, at his home. He had been living with ALS / Lou Gehrig's Disease for more than 6 years.
Clarke was an enthusiastic historian of Pennsylvania German culture and Mennonite family history. He was born in Lebanon County, PA, on June 16, 1954. He lived in Lancaster County since the age of six.
Clarke's great love was the study of Mennonite genealogy and Hess family history. He was a researcher and lecturer of Pennsylvania architecture and historic folk art. He curated various museum exhibits on Mennonite arts and antiques.
Clarke authored the book Mennonite Arts, about the antiques and regional culture of the Mennonites. He was an active member of the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, where he joined the board of directors in 1981. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County, and the Landis Valley Museum.
He served on committees at the Heritage Center Museum, the Hans Herr House, and the Lancaster Quilt Museum, and received a lifetime-honor award as Fellow of LancasterHistory.org. He also was a member of the American Folk Art Society and the Vernacular Architecture Forum.
In 1985 Clarke purchased his ancestral Hess Homestead in Warwick Township near Lititz, and restored this property for his home, which was featured in numerous magazine articles and television programs. Clarke frequently opened his home to historical groups, garden clubs, and to anyone who was interested in local history.
Clarke was vice president and a principal owner of Hess Home Builders of Neffsville. Clarke's father and older brothers began this business in 1964. Clarke spent his entire working career with this company.
Clarke is survived by his spouse, Lee J. Stoltzfus, and by Clarke's brothers and sisters: Ruth Ann, wife of John B. Gochnauer of Columbia, Sheryl J., wife of William E. Quickel of Marietta, W. Roy, husband of Brenda M. Hess of Lancaster, Robert L. Hess of Columbia, John P., husband of Milesetta H. Hess of Lititz, James L., husband of Susan R. Hess of Lancaster, C. Richard, husband of Susan Hess of Annville, Earl K., husband of B. Anne Hess of Newmanstown. His family also includes 28 nieces and nephews, plus numerous great and great-great nieces & nephews. Clarke was a son of Walter B. and Ruth N. (Horst) Hess.
A celebration of Clarke's life will be held Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Lititz Church of the Brethren, 300 West Orange Street, Lititz. Visitation will begin at 1:00 with the service at 2:00. Hess, Elizabeth M., 76, of Pequea, entered into her eternal rest on January 21, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care in Mt. Joy following a six month battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Mary E. Leaman Hess.
Elizabeth was a member of Byerland Mennonite Church and most recently attended Bright Side Baptist Church where she was involved in taking her Lancaster friends to church.
She loved cooking and baking which she acquired by helping on the family farm. She had tended a stand at Central Market with baked goods and produce. After closing the market business in 1989 she had been employed as a baker at the Bird-In-Hand Bake Shop and at ManorCare in Lancaster.
Surviving are two sisters, Ann wife of John Hochstetler of Pine Bush, NY and Grace A. Hess of Pequea; a brother, Charles A. husband of Lois Ober Hess of Pequea, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, B. Daniel Hess, Elmer L. Hess, and an infant brother, and by a sister Mary L. Hess.

Hess, Frederick E., 70, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care, surrounded by family. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Arthur and Norma Landis Hess and the husband of Jean Lovett Hess.
He was a 1965 graduate of Warwick High School and was president of the 4-H Club and showed award-winning Hampshire Sheep. From 1967-1969 in lieu of military service he served at the National Institute of Health. He returned home and began working for Hess Bros. Fruit Company, the family business started by his father and uncle. In the mid 1990's, Frederick and his brother, Gerald, began running the business. He was noted for his leadership on many apple organizations including the U.S. Apple Association, PA Apple Marketing Board, and the U.S. Apple Export Council. He was instrumental in creating a new variety of apples, called Sweet Cheeks. In 2017, he was awarded Apple Man of the Year by The Packer magazine.
He was a member of Neffsville Mennonite Church.
He loved traveling and gardening with his wife, golfing, sailing, skiing, being outside, and spending time with his family.
Surviving along with his devoted wife are two children; Stephanie Gibson (Geoff), Frederick Hunter Hess (Grace), three stepchildren; Brian Jackson (Sarah), Lindsay Romig (Jon), and Colleen Murphy (Rob), and will be dearly missed by 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters; Mary Ann Scherpf (David) and Catherine Figart (Thomas). He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gerald Hess.
A viewing and family visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Neffsville Mennonite Church, 2371 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 from 6-9 PM. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Neffsville Mennonite Church at 1:00 PM. Following the service, the family will be available in the Fellowship Hall for a time of greeting. Hess, Helen Denlinger, 98, of Willow Street, passed away on September 16, 2018 at Willow Valley Lakeside. She was the daughter of John and Lillian Eby Denlinger.
A 1936 graduate of East Lampeter High School, Helen became a bookkeeper at Penn Dairies in Lancaster. Following her marriage to Mark S. Hess in 1943, she embraced her new role as a farmer's wife for 51 years, until his death in 1995.
A dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, she energetically supported her children's school activities. After her children were grown, she and Mark were very involved in church youth activities. An excellent cook and baker, Helen enjoyed entertaining family and friends.
While living in Hershey, PA in the mid 1960's, she obtained a real estate license and sold real estate in Hershey and later in Lancaster. In 1983, when Willow Valley Communities was opening, she became a sales counselor there, retiring in 1998.
She is survived by her son Karl (Elma) Hess of Scottsburg, VA, daughter Linda (William) Pickwell of Aiken, SC, grandsons Konrad, Jonathan (Monica) and Michael (Deidre), step-granddaughter Lynn Pickwell, great-grandchildren Klara and William Hess, and sister Edythe Huber. She is predeceased by her husband, brothers Lester and Mervin Denlinger, and sister Ruth Osborne.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Pequea Brethren in Christ Church, 40 Church Rd., Lancaster, PA 17603 at 11:00 AM. Hess, John R., Jr., age 93, of Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Rocky Mount, VA, and Atglen, PA, passed away on May 10, 2018. He was the husband of the late Lila Buckwalter Hess, who passed away on March 27, 2010. He was born in Conestoga, son of the late John and Mary Graver Hess. He was a member of the Fountain Faith Fellowship of Fountain, CO and in the past he was a member of Blue Ridge Chapel, Rocky Mt., VA, former Caln Fellowship of Downingtown, PA, Sandy Hill Mennonite Church of Coatesville, Maple Grove Mennonite Church of Atglen, PA. Along with his wife they owned and operated the former Spring Grove Dairy of Atglen for 21 years.
Surviving are 5 granddaughters, 20 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son John R. "Jack" Hess, III, husband of Ann Crandall Hess of Colorado Springs, CO.

High, Carl Gene, 73, of Willow Street, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Alice M. (Herr) High for 52 years.
Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Daniel W. and Nora (Becher) High.
Carl was a truck driver for Pennfield Corp. for 44 years. Following his retirement, he drove truck part time for BB's Discount Grocery, Quarryville.
A member of Stumptown Mennonite Church, he loved music, to sing bass, and spend time with his family. Carl had the gift of showing love to all he came in contact with, touching many lives. His smile and kind words will be remembered by many.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Debra M. High, Willow Street, Timothy G. married to Anita F. (Martin) High, Willow Street, and Philip D. married to Lori A. (Reynolds) High, Lancaster; five grandchildren: Justin, Austin, Rebecca, Victoria, and Philip (JR); and five siblings: Warren G. married to Doris High, Lititz, J. High, Lori Sue, 49, of Stevens, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia.
She was born in Ephrata to the J. Clair High and the late Shirley Ann (Weaver) High.
She was a member of Blainsport Mennonite Church and attended Lancaster County Bible Church. She was a cheerleading coach for Cocalico Midget Football for 15 years, and volunteered for the high school squad also. She attended various sporting events, and enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Lori was a graduate of Cocalico H.S. Class of 1987 and she furthered her education at Central Penn for Physical Therapy Assistant. She worked as a Para Professional at Denver Elementary School and previously worked for the Cocalico School District.
In addition to her father, Lori is survived by 2 daughters, Alisa Francis High (Warren Whirt) of New Holland, and Halle Christine High-Benson (Joey Becker) of Philadelphia; 3 grandchildren, Bria High, Walker Whirt, and Samuel Whirt; companion, Scott Sweigart of Denver; 6 brothers, Gary L., husband of Cecelia (Leed) High of Elizabethtown, Jay, husband of Star (Moser) High of Reinholds, Dennis, husband of Connie (Becker) High of Robesonia, Kevin, husband of Holly (Dillman) High of Denver, Curtis, husband of Joan (Higgins) High of Stevens, Darrell, husband of Cindy (Werner) High of Lebanon; and many nieces and nephews.

Hill, Gary Lynn, 63, of Denver, CO died July 25, 2018 at the same place from multiple myeloma. He was born October 3, 1954 at Omaha, NE to James Hill and Doris Baughman. On February 25, 1988 he was married to Carlene Hill, who survives.
Surviving are children, Sean, Ashford (Ash), and Alijah; and siblings, Shari Hill Kelemen, Jerry Patrick (Pat) Malec, Michael Malec.

Hochstedler, Walter, 90, of Goshen, died Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at Goshen Hospital.
He was born December 17, 1927 in Kokomo to Willis and Nona (Helmuth) Hochstedler.
On October 10, 1948 he married Florence Brandenberger at Clinton Frame Church.
She survives along with two sons, LaMar (Linda) Hochstedler of Shipshewana and Lance (Claire) Hochstedler of New Paris; four grandchildren, Brandon (Andrea) Kelsey, Trevor (Lori) Hochstedler, Troy (Shari) Hochstedler and Lauren Hochstedler; eight great-grandchildren, Allison, Collin, Preston, Alexis, Anthony, Aubrey, Baige and Cyeson; sister, Helen Yoder of New Paris; brother, Wilbur (Pat) Hochstedler of Greentown and sister-in-law, Catherine Yoder of Kokomo.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Hochstedler and a brother, Willard Hochstedler.
Mr. Hochstedler was a Sea Going Cowboy to Poland with Heifer Project following World War II leaving the U.S. December 1945 and returning February 1946.
After farming in Kokomo, he owned and operated Hochstedler Grain and Feed in Emma. Following his retirement, he worked at Graber Well Drilling, Shipshewana for 12 years.
He was a 20-year member of College Mennonite Church where he sang in the choir. He was also a member of Gospel Messenger Men’s Chorus and volunteered as a Red Coat at Goshen Hospital with 1520 volunteer hours.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 28, 2018, from 2 to 6 p.m. and 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, in the Gathering Room at College Mennonite Church. A 10 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2018, funeral service will be conducted at College Mennonite Church. Pastor Pamela Yoder will officiate.
Burial will follow in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorial contributions may be given to Gideon’s International, where he was a member.

Hochstetler, Alan Ray, a resident of Morningside Assisted Living of Williamsburg, Virginia, died April 7, 2018, due to complications of Parkinson’s disease that he had for 37 years. He was born May 7, 1939, in Nappanee, Indiana, as the youngest of five children born to William and Mary (Maust) Hochstetler. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Eugene and Dean Hochstetler, and a nephew, Donald Hochstetler. Another nephew, Lee Hochstetler, died the following day after Alan’s death. Survivors are his wife, Donna, and two sisters, Mary Ellen Kaufman and Miriam Hochstetler of Nappanee, Indiana. Other living relative are nephews Clair (Carole Anne) Hochstetler, Verle (Marci) Hochstetler, step-children and step-grandchildren.
Alan’s educational background includes Bremen High School class salutatorian of 1957, undergraduate studies at Goshen College with a B.A. in chemistry in 1964, and graduate school at Northwestern University with a doctorate in organic chemistry in 1968. After completing a year at Goshen College, he applied to Mennonite Central Committee for the PAX (peace) program to meet alternative governmental requirements for the draft. A three-year term in Viet Nam from 1958-1961 was accepted. As a foreman, he designed and built two wings onto an existing leprosarium in Banmethuot. During the latter part of his term, he was transferred to South Korea to supervise construction of a barn and a building for orphan boys. He returned to the United States in 1961. Alan had such a compassion for the Vietnamese people that he revisited the country several times.
After returning from his term of service abroad, he reentered Goshen College to complete his B.A. and graduated in the summer of 1964 with honors. In the fall of 1964 he began graduate work at Northwestern University and was awarded a doctorate in organic chemistry in 1968. Following the completion of his Ph.D, he accepted a one-year assignment as a lecturer in the chemistry department at Northwestern. On September 8, 1969, he was offered a research job at Givaudan Corporation in Clifton, New Jersey, and experimented with cedar wood oil chemistry and process research. During his career he was involved in 27 publications and patents. After working at Givaudan for 25 years as a scientist, his professional career in chemistry ended in 1994 due to Parkinson’s disability.
He was a member of Williamsburg Mennonite Church and appreciated the caring people there. He was a volunteer at the Williamsburg Mennonite Retreat Center. He drew diagrams of his genealogy, liked to work on old cars, put jigsaw puzzles together, and collected Indiana license plates beginning in 1913 to recent ones that are displayed in a garage. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps and singing in a male quartet. As a young boy he found empty locust shells, counted them, and saved them in an oatmeal box.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Memorial services will begin at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 12th also at the funeral home.

GOSHEN - Catherine “Cathy” Schloneger Hochstetler, 78, of Greencroft, Goshen, passed to her eternal home after a long battle with cancer at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018.
She is survived by husband, Russell, and four children and their spouses, Jay (Jodi Miller), Jerry (Linda Childress), Beth (J.D.) Smucker of Goshen and Dawn (Doug) Gerber of Wakarusa.
She leaves 13 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Doug and Joyce Cuney of Elkhart are also special family members.
Cathy was born June 23, 1939, in Canton, Ohio, to Irvin and Irene (Falb) Schloneger of Louisville, Ohio.
Siblings include Bob (Enid) Schloneger of Goshen, Sandra (Jim) Brenneman of Newburgh, Faye (Marty) Breneman of Apple Creek, Ohio and Keith (Bev) Schloneger of Dundee, Ohio.
Both parents and brother David Schloneger are deceased.
Cathy’s faith in God was vital to her life.
At an early age, she was baptized at Beech Mennonite Church, Louisville, Ohio.
After Russ’s Goshen College graduation, they moved to New Carlisle to help with the developing church at Hudson Lake. While there, she worked as a nurse aide at Hamilton Grove, as a receptionist to Dr. Wolfe at the New Carlisle Animal Clinic and as secretary at Kern Road Mennonite Church, South Bend, where they were members.
After 40 years in the New Prairie area, they returned to Goshen where their children and families live.
Before retirement, she served as secretary at Mennonite Church USA Archives on the Goshen College campus.
She was a member at Waterford Mennonite Church, Goshen, where visitation with the family is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. June 15 and a memorial service at 10 a.m. June 16.
Her body will be cremated.

GOSHEN - Clara Hochstetler, 100, of Goshen, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018.
She was born April 24, 1917, to Menno and Amanda (Hochstetler) Anderson.
She married Ben R. Hochstetler; he died Oct. 28, 1992.
Surviving are daughters Martha Cross and Rosemary Bontrager; sons Melvin, Harvey, Alvin and Henry Hochstetler; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; four great- great-grandchildren; and sisters Rosa Lohr and Tillie Shank.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son Ivan Hochstetler; one grandson; five sisters; and three brothers.
Clara was a prayer warrior, praying daily especially for each of her children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 - 5 and 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Woodlawn Mennonite Church, Goshen.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, also a the church.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Goshen.

Hochstetler, Dale Eli, 92, of Hesston, Harvey Co., KS died March 17, 2018 at the same place. He was born August 18, 1925 at Frytown, Iowa to Earl and Mary (Krabill) Hochstetler. He was married to Lucile Hochstetler, who survives.
Surviving are children, Thomas (Katy) Hochstetler and Jay (Kelley) Hochstetler; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Arlene (John) Miller, and Mary (Keith) Brenneman.
Two children, Deanne Losey, and Jerome Hochstetler and three brothers, Don (Marvel), Orlin (Lores), and Roger (Glennis) preceded him in death.

Dale Eli Hochstetler, 92, passed away on Saturday (March 17, 2018) in Hesston at Schowalter Villa from complications of kidney failure. He was born near Frytown, Iowa, on Aug. 18, 1925, to Earl and Mary (Krabill) Hochstetler.
Dale was proud to work with farmers and listed his occupation as Feed Mill and Elevator Operator. He owned and operated H&H Feeds in Wellman, Iowa, Hesston Mill & Elevator, Hesston and Newton Elevator, North Newton. He was an International Executive Consultant to a poultry operation in Quito, Ecuador, and worked for Mennonite Economic Development Association as a small business consultant and loan officer in Zaire and Jamaica. Additionally, he worked with the K-State Facts program assisting farmers in financial crisis, and in later years was a Real Estate Broker in Newton, Hesston and Greeley, Colorado.
Dale was a charter member and officer of the Hesston Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Harvey County planning board and the Hesston City Council. He was a member of Hesston Mennonite Church and had been a member of the board of elders.
Dale enjoyed nature, plants, animals and birds. One of his joys in life was birds and he loved to have chickens when he could. He walked, hiked and biked for pleasure. He enjoyed farming and working with farmers. He loved family genealogy and enjoyed sharing about his family history, which included his ancestor, Jacob, who came to America in 1738. He was an avid University of Kansas college basketball fan. The last few decades of his life he enjoyed owning a half-section of farmland in Marion County. It was a joy for him and Lucile to be able to contribute a leading gift to the Schowalter Villa building campaign for their current building expansion project.
His travels included Kenya, Ecuador, Egypt, Israel, Jamaica, Greece, England, Zaire, France, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and Germany. He studied French in preparation for his work in Zaire.
Dale is survived by his wife, Lucile (Conrad); sons, Thomas (Katy) of Estes Park, Colorado, and Jay (Kelley) of Marion, Indiana; grandchildren: Matthew (Jillian), Adam (Adrianna), Susie (Chad Pruett) Hochstetler, Hannah (Justin) Brenig and Jacob (Katy) Hochstetler; and sisters, Arlene (John) Miller and Mary (Keith) Brenneman. He also had four great-grandchildren: Andrew, Tobias, Isaac and Allyson.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deanne Losey; son, Jerome; and his brothers, Don (Marvel), Orlin (Lores) and Roger (Glennis).
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (March 24, 2018) at Hesston Mennonite Church. Visitation will be immediately prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m.

SHIPSHEWANA - Daniel “Dan” D. Hochstetler, 80, of Shipshewana, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018.
He was born July 22, 1937, to Daniel and Anna (Wickey) Hochstetler.
He married Edna Christner; she survives.
Survivors also are a daughter, Deb (Dennis) Mast; a son, Danny (Gloria) Hochstetler; granddaughter Alicia Clark; great-grandson Jaxon Clark; stepgrandsons Jake Mast and Matthew Miller; sisters Mary Miller oand Edna Christner; and a brother, John Hochstetler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Barbara Yoder; two brothers, Ervin and Amos Hochstetler; and grandson Kyle Bunten.
He was a member of the Maple Grove Church, Topeka.
Visitation will be from 2 - 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Maple Grove Church, Topeka.
There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Feb. 17, also at the church.

DuWayne E. Hochstetler, age 75, of Nappanee, died at 9:13 am, Friday, June 29, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa following an extended illness. He was born November 14, 1942 in Three Rivers, MI to Edward H. and Sylvia L. (Yoder) Hochstetler.
DuWayne was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Miller, New Paris. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise E. Miller; brother, Norman R. Hochstetler; and sister-in-law, Clara Hochstetler.

Goshen - Emma Rachel Hochstetler, 98, died Thursday, Oct. 23, at Courtyard Healthcare.
She was born April 8, 1920, in Wolford, North Dakota, to Noah and Priscilla (Witmer) Bacher.
She married Perry Hochstetler on June 1, 1941, in Wolford, N.D.; he died in May of 1995.
She is survived by children Merlin (Elsie) Hochstetler of Mishawaka, Wendell (Beverly) Hochstetler of Middlebury, Marilyn Ross of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, Welma (Ervin Stutzman) Mast of Goshen, Linda (Jay) Shelly of Florence, Montana, and Phyllis (Dean) Gingerich of Missoula, Montana; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters; a brother; and two grandchildren, Durwin Hochstetler and Julie Hochstetler Albright.
Emma graduated from Wolford High School.
After spending most of her life in North Dakota and Montana, she moved to Orrville, Ohio, where she lived for 13 years before moving to Goshen in 2015.
She was a very loving wife and mother; a remarkable cook, and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends.
She had many interests including gardening, sewing, reading and quilting.
She had a great faith and trust in God, which she freely shared with those around her.
She loved teaching both children and adult Sunday school classes.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, celebration of life service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
Enid Schloneger will officiate.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Hamilton, Montana.

He was born May 16, 1958, in Bremen, to Ammon J. and Edith (Burkholder) Hochstetler.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Deborah; grandchildren Pierce, Ariana, and Nicolas; father and stepmother, Ammon J. LAGRANGE - Jason and Jesse Hochstetler, twin infant sons of James and Ruby (Schrock) Hochstetler, of LaGrange, died at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio.
They were born at 5:14 a.m. and 5:35 a.m. respectively, on May 5.
Survivors in addition to their parents are three sisters, Ella Mae, Edith Rose, and Kathryn Ann Hochstetler, all at home; grandparents, Elmer C. and Esther Hochstetler and William A. and Luella Schrock both of LaGrange.
Family, church friends and friends may gather at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 7 at Miller Cemetery, LaGrange for a graveside service. Services will be conducted by the home ministers of the Old Order Amish church.

GOSHEN - Ora M. Hochstetler, 89, of Goshen, formerly of Middlebury, died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Waterford Crossing Health Center, Goshen, where he had stayed since Oct. 13, 2017.
He was born June 15, 1929, in LaGrange County, to Chris and Inah (Bontrager) Hochstetler.
On Oct. 22,1950, in Elkhart County, he married Alta Marie Miller; she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are three daughters, Ruth (Dale) Mullet of Sugarcreek, Ohio, Anita (Jerry M.) Yoder of Ligonier and Grace (Rod) Bontrager of Goshen; two sons, Mark (Jane) Hochstetler and Nate (Rhonda) Hochstetler, all of Middlebury; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie (Melvin) Gingerich of Topeka and Marie (Henry) Petersheim of Abbyville, South Carolina; and brother Ernest (Mary Ellen) Hochstetler of Abbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Frederick Hochstetler; infant sister, Edna Hochstetler; and grandson Jonathan Yoder.
Ora was a member of Riverview Christian Fellowship in White Pigeon, Michigan, and a co-founder of Honeyville Metal Inc., where he worked for more than 50 years.
He was also a member of Gideons International and had volunteered with Gospel Echoes, where he had served on the board of directors.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Fairhaven Mennonite Church, Goshen.

Hoffman, Miriam Adele Wenger, 79, of Ephrata, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in presence of family.
Born May 14, 1939 in Lititz, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Paul S. Wenger and Bertha (Sensenich) Wenger. She was the loving wife of Paul R. Hoffman, Sr. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary March 1st of this year.
In addition to her husband, Miriam is survived by four children, Paul R. Hoffman Jr., husband of Barbara, Lancaster, PA, Dennis L. Hoffman, Ephrata, PA, Darlene J. Gingrich, wife of Kevin, Ephrata, PA and Michelle L. Hoffman, Lititz, PA.
Miriam was known as Maw Maw by her three grandchildren and two great-grandsons, whom she adored: Chad M. Gingrich (husband of Kaity) San Diego, CA, Ashley N. Lewis (wife of Tyler) Akron, PA, Jessica A. Di Paolo (wife of Etienne) Ephrata, PA and great-grandsons, Cooper J. Lewis and Cayden P. Di Paolo. Also, survived by sister R. Yvonne Enck, wife of M. Douglas Enck, Ephrata, PA.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, and brother James S. Wenger.
Miriam loved her family and countless friends and to know her was to love her. Miriam was a sweet, caring and generous person and had a remarkable faith and never once questioned God's grace.
Memorial service will be held at her church, Lititz Mennonite Church, 165 Front Street, Lititz on Sunday, July 1, 2018 with Pastor Rodney Martin officiating. All may greet the family from 4:00 until the time of the service starting at 5:00. A reception to follow in the church social hall as family and friends are invited to attend to celebrate Miriam's life.
Holdeman, Anna Theocharides, 94, of Westminster, CO died March 12, 2018 at the same place. She was born January 30, 1924 at Thessaloniki, Greece to Eleftherios and Elissavet Theocharides. She was married to Ivan Holdeman, who is deceased.

Hollinger, Mark A., 86, of Long Community, Lancaster, formerly of Akron, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Landis Homes.
He was born in Narvon to John E., Sr. and Lottie (Fellenbaum) Hollinger and was the husband of the late Dorothy A. Hollinger for 54 years before she passed away in 2011.
He was a past member of Bethel Mennonite Church, Lancaster, where he sang in the choir for many years and was the treasurer for 15 years.
Mark was a mechanic and supervisor for Horning Dodge, New Holland, for 37 years. He enjoyed singing, hiking, biking, camping, and traveling the world with his wife and keeping up with current events. He was the best Dad and friend a child could want. He was a kind and steady man and hard worker.
Mark is survived by a daughter, Brenda "Lynn" Hollinger of Middletown, CT.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Aaron, John, Homer and Luke Hollinger; three sisters, Rhoda Petersheim, Miriam Hollinger, and Eva Martin and 3 infant siblings.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 North Ninth Street, Akron. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 9 to 10 AM followed by funeral services at 10 AM. Interment will take place in the Weaverland Mennonite Cemetery.

Holsopple, Emery, 89, of Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN died October 3, 2018 at the same place. He was born March 6, 1929 at Somerset Co., PA to Emory Homer and Lucinda (Lehman) Holsopple. On June 5, 1948 at Davidsville, PA he was married to Mary Dianna Miller, who was born May 18, 1928 and died April 27, 2018.
Surviving are children, Dennis (Shirley) Holsopple; Jerry (Mary) Holsopple; and Kathy (James) Holsopple; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
A son, James Holsopple and siblings, Erma Short, Elvin Holsopple, Paul Holsopple, and Samuel Holsopple preceded him in death.
Emery loved to build, tinker and fix. He was a plumber, welder and mechanic who lived with the idea that he could fix anything. Everyone who met Emery experienced his ability to chat with anyone and his sense of humor. He did not understand the idea of a stranger. He was generous with his skills and money helping others fix, build and follow their dreams. All of his work and generous spirit came from a deep faith commitment. He was always active in church, serving in various leadership roles and teaching Sunday School. He modeled how to be a gentle caring man with his unwavering love for his wife, children and grandchildren.

Holsopple, Mary Dianna Miller, 89, of Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN died April 27, 2018 at the same place. She was born May 18, 1928 at Carpenters Park, PA to James F. and Minnie (Wingard) Miller. On June 5, 1948 at Davidsville, PA she was married to Emery Holsopple, who was born March 6, 1929 and survives.
Surviving are children, Dennis (Shirley) Holsopple and Jerry (Mary) Holsopple; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
A son, James Holsopple and siblings, Louise Gehman, Eva Miller, Esther Strayer, and James D. Miller preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held July 14, 2018 at Waterford Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She sewed for many people, understanding this was a way to help others and offer a listening ear. Mary was an avid reader, studied the Bible regularly, sought to integrate this into her life and enjoyed teaching Sunday school and speaking about many topics. She encouraged her sons and their children into a life of faith and to serve others with their work. Even as she aged, she still enjoyed mentoring and befriending younger generations in her congregation. Her home was opened for guests to gather around her generously full table.

GOSHEN - Marjorie Kathryn Hooley, 86, of Goshen, died at 8:37 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018, in the Goshen Health Hospital emergency department.
She was born May 27, 1932, in Delavan, Illinois, to Albert and Kate (Miller) Birky.
On Aug. 16, 1957, in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, she married Marion M. Hooley; he died Aug. 19, 2014.
Surviving are daughter Janet (Barry) Kercher of Goshen; son Brad B. (Laura) Hooley of Goshen; five grandchildren, Jackson and Jordan Hooley, Brandon and Stephen Kercher, and Brandi Noel Zepeda; one great-grandson, Morrison Hooley; multiple nieces and nephews; sister Joyce (David) McCreary of Goshen; and two brothers, Ivan (Doris) Birky of Shipshewana and Vernon (Carol) Birky of Goshen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Lester Hooley and sister Dorothy Mishler.
Marjorie was a member of Shore Church.
She was a teacher for five years at Topeka Elementary School and a substitute teacher for 30 years in the Middlebury school system.
She retired after 10 years as a courier from Culver Duck.
She also volunteered at the Middlebury Food Pantry and Orchard View Elementary School.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at Shore Church, 7235 W. 100 North, Shipshewana.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, also at the church.
Services will be conducted by Pastor Carl Horner and Marjorie’s grandson, Brandon Kercher.
Burial will be in Shore Cemetery.

Hoover, Abram N., 91, formerly of South Annville Twp. passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 in Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. He was the husband of the late H. Jean Metzler Hoover who passed away on October 2, 2017.
Born in Bareville, PA on March 14, 1927, he was the son of the late Harry O. and Bertha M. Hoover. Abram was a pastor for over 25 years at Gingrichs Mennonite Church, W. Cornwall Twp. where he especially enjoyed his visitation ministry and was very involved with the Lancaster Mennonite Conference activities. Abram also owned and operated a dairy and beef farm in South Annville Township which is presently in it's 3rd generation. His greatest farming passion was feeding beef cattle. He also began Abram Hoover Wood Shavings in the late 1980's and it continues today as a family business.
Abram and his late wife served as a host for the Recovery of Hope Program through Philhaven Hospital and hosted various tour groups overseas. He was a former member of the Agway Advisory Committee and the Lehigh Valley Farmers Dairy Co-op.
Surviving are four sons Dale L. husband of Charlotte Hoover of Lebanon, Nevin R. husband of Eileen Hoover of Annville, Dean L. husband of Mary Ann Hoover of Lebanon, Reid K. husband of Diane Hoover of Lebanon, a daughter Karen J. wife of Edwin Copenhaver of Annville, a sister Alta Ranck of Lititz, 16 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers Harlan, Lester, and Lloyd Hoover and a sister Erla Bentley.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Gingrichs Mennonite Church, 100 Forney Road, Lebanon, PA 17042. A viewing will be held at the Church on Sunday evening from 5-8 PM with an informal visitation held immediately following the service on Monday. Hoover, Amos H., 59, of 522 Wentzel Rd., East Earl, died Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital. His wife, Grace H. (Martin) Hoover, survives.
Born in New Holland, he was the son of the late Amos and Lydia (Nolt) Hoover.
Amos was a farmer and a member of Black Creek Mennonite Church.

Hoover, Edna Zimmerman, 71, of Elizabethtown, entered into rest at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy, on Wednesday March 21, 2018. Edna was born on March 5, 1947, to the late John N.M. and Sadie (Horst) Zimmerman. She was the loving wife of Wilmer W. Hoover with whom she shared 48 years of marriage September 6, 2017. Edna was a member of Clearview Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference. She served as a licensed practical nurse for a total of 42 years at the following locations: Good Samaritan Hospital, Quarryville Presbyterian Home, Mount Hope Home, and the Lebanon Renova Center.
Surviving in addition to her husband are five children, J. Wesley (Lorene Hoover) of Lebanon, Philip (Louise Martin) of Elizabethtown, Marcus (Susanne Good) of Manheim, Kristal (Cleason Martin) of Osage, IA, Carl (Susan Honigmann) of Elizabethtown; 23 grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth (Aaron Shirk) of Lebanon, Luella (Eli Wenger) of Manheim, Alma (Ray Zimmerman) of Newmanstown, and a brother David (Esther Horst) of Myerstown.

Hoover, Edwin W., 86, of Ephrata, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Lancaster General Hospital.
He was born in Clay Twp. to the Edwin Z. and Ella O. (Weaver) Hoover and was the husband of the late Edith W. Hoover who passed away in 2007.
He was a member of Springville Mennonite Church (Weaverland Conference).
Edwin was a retired farmer.

Hoover, Jay Laverne, 67, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, went to be with the Lord on October 26, 2018. He was born on August 28, 1951, in Leola, Pennsylvania to Elmer and Martha (Boll) Hoover. He was the husband of Janet (Kuhns) Hoover, whom he was married to for 47 years. He was a family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a loyal friend. He was a truck driver all of his working life. He and Janet enjoyed camping, especially at Spruce Lake Retreat. He was a member of the LifeGate Ministries in Waynesboro, PA.
Jay is survived by his wife and their two sons: Jeffery (husband of Tina) Hoover and Jeryl (husband of Roxanne) Hoover of Chambersburg. He has four loving grandchildren: Paige, Rachel, Emily and Derek. He is also survived by his eight siblings: Shirlene (Irvin) Redcay, Clair (Ruth) Hoover, Glenn (Ginny) Hoover, Curvin (Laverne) Hoover, Clyde (Erma) Hoover, Ella Faye (Ken) Stoner, Lloyd (Elaine) Hoover and Lucy (Don) Weaver, all of Lancaster County. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Nelson and a sister-in-law, Jean. He is also survived by Nelson's wife, Esther (Ken) Meck.
Funeral services will be Thursday November 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Chambersburg Mennonite Church with Revs. Delton Lehman, Dale Martin and Lloyd Hoover officiating. Hoover, Louise Marie Hershey Graber
March 21, 1926 - March 20, 2018
Louise Marie (Hershey) Graber Hoover went to be with Jesus on March 20, 2018, of congestive heart failure.
Louise was born to Ben and Abbie Hershey, near Shippensburg, PA, on March 21, 1926. At 14, she became a Christian and was baptized and became a member of the Sheldon Mennonite Church.
Louise moved to Northern Minnesota to work on the mission field where she met and married Herbert Graber. Louise and Herbert were married on October 22, 1950, in Strawberry Lake, MN. In their first years, they lived in Hartville, OH, Wolford, ND and Minnesota. Five sons were born to them, H. Larry, Llewellyn, Tim, Steve and Elvin. In 1968, they moved to Ladysmith, WI. After Herb's passing in 1997, Louise married Arthur Hoover on May 23, 1998.
Louise enjoyed gardening, crocheting and more than anything, spending time with her grandchildren, and especially her sisters.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and two brothers; her first husband, Herbert Graber; her second husband, Arthur Hoover; and a step-son, Jerry Hoover.
She is survived by her children, H. Larry (Rose), Lewi (Marlene), Tim (Grace) Steve (Nettie), Elv (Arla); step-children, Dale, Helena, Valerie, Linda, Dorothy, Glen, and Lora; 26 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren; her sister, Pearl Martin; sister-in-law Ella Hershey; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mary Ann Hoover, age 78, of Tunas, Mo., formerly of Barnett, Mo., passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018. She was born in Churchtown, Pennsylvania on July 1, 1940 to Christian and Elizabeth "Betsy" Kilmer.
On November 24, 1960, in Bowmansville, Penn., she married Lloyd S. Hoover, and to this union six children were born. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2011.
On March 1, 1974, Lloyd and Mary Ann moved with their family onto a farm near Barnett, Mo. Mary Ann was employed at Fasco Industries in Eldon, Mo. until her retirement. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Mennonite Church in Latham, Mo. In 2015, she moved to Tunas, Mo. to be near her daughter.
Mary Ann was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Earl K. Hoover; one sister, Naomi Martin; two brothers, Maynard Kilmer and John Kilmer; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
Survivors include two sons, Mervin and wife Ruth Hoover of Rutledge, Mo. and Michael "Mike" Hoover of Latham, Mo.; three daughters, Marion I. June of Newark, New York, Emma Mae, wife of David Hoehler of Shobonier, Ill. and Ruth Elaine "Ruthe", wife of Dean Zimmerman of Tunas, Mo.; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Aaron Kilmer of Neillsville, Wis.; eight sisters, Katherine, wife of Menno Ramer of High Point, Mo., Florence Nolt of New Holland, Penn., Ada, wife of Phares Zimmerman of Millmont, Penn., Barbara, wife of Walter Zimmerman of Barnett, Mo., Betty, wife of Eli Shirk of Withee, Wis., Bertha, wife of Samuel Shirk of Spencer, Tenn., Annetta, wife of Roy Martin of Latham, Mo. and Esther, wife of Aaron Shirk of Granton, Wis.
Hoover, Melvin M., Jr., 58, of Berrysburg, formerly of Port Royal and Lancaster, passed away at 8:42 a.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic Campus in Harrisburg.
Born on August 10, 1960 in Ephrata, Lancaster Co., he is a son of the late Melvin M. Sr. and Edna G. (Martin) Hoover.
On December 27, 1980, he was married to his surviving wife, Anna W. (Martin) Hoover, with whom he was blessed to share over 37 years of marriage.
Mel was a graduate of Eastern Lebanon Co. High School, was employed as an over the road truck driver, and was the owner and operator of KKR Ventures LLC in Berrysburg.
He was a member of the Delaware Mennonite Church in Thompsontown and enjoyed woodworking, especially wooden toys.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Karen Elizabeth, K. Nathan, Rosanne Kay, and Phillip Andrew Hoover, all at home; two sisters, Ruth Ann Hoover and her husband Clair of Mohnton and Mary Jane Martin of Ephrata; two brothers, Curvin Hoover and his wife Mary Jane of Kinzers and Nelson Hoover and his wife Dawn of Lebanon; four sisters-in-law, Edna Faye Burkholder, Vera Sensenig, Mary E. Nolt, and Etta Martin; seven brothers-in-law, Leon, Harold, Lewis, Lloyd, Roy, Paul David, and Lester Abraham Martin; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Vernon Martin.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018, beginning at 11 AM at the Delaware Mennonite Church, 16 Delaware Church Road, Thompsontown with Pastor David Gingrich officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

Hoover, Willis S., 90, of Souderton, Montgomery Co., PA died August 4, 2018 at Telford, Montgomery Co., PA. He was born February 15, 1928 at Ephrata, Lancaster Co., PA to Joseph and Mary (Sensenig) Hoover. On June 1, 1957 he was married to Mary Miller, who was born April 30, 1935 and survives.
Surviving are children, Wendell Hoover (Trish); Glenn Hoover (Reenie); Roger Hoover (Sharon); Lori Groff (Tim); Daryl Hoover; and Brian Hoover (Heather); 14 grandchildren, and siblings, Allen Hoover; Elmer Hoover (Anna Mary); Anna Weber; Anna Eberly (Irwin); Thelma Wenger (Dan); sister-in-law Ruth Hoover.
An infant daughter, two brothers, Paul Hoover and Ellis Hoover, two brothers-in-law, Martin Weber, and Richard Erb and a sister-in-law Alta Hoover preceded him in death.

Horning, Mary M. Zeiset, 92, of 1694 Turkey Hill Road, East Earl, died Thursday, May 31, 2018 at her home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Caernarvon Twp., she was a daughter of the late John M. and Lydia (Martin) Zeiset. Her husband, Mahlon W. Horning, died March 18, 2010.
Mary was a homemaker and a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.

Born in West Earl Township, Lancaster County on July 20, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Christian B. and Ella Nolt Hoover Kurtz.

Horning, Ruth B. Hess, 86, of Lititz, and formerly of Denver, died peacefully on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Brethren Village. Born in Mount Joy Township, she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Ruth Landis Hess. A homemaker, she was the loving wife of the late Leonard L. Horning who died in 2005. She was an active member of New Life Fellowship Church, Ephrata. Earlier in her life she taught Sunday school in the adult women's class at Manheim Mennonite Church.
Ruth had many varied interests including health and nutrition, history, genealogy, current events, reading, and art. She did not graduate from high school, but that did not hold her back from a lifelong quest of learning. She was known to peruse her grandchildren's college textbooks. Ruth loved studying history and people groups and often said she would have enjoyed being an anthropologist. The grandchildren learned if they asked a question about the drop of gypsy blood found in the DNA test she had taken, the conversation was off and running. Ruth was an atypical Mennonite woman of her time. Instead of attending sewing circle she preferred reading about Anabaptist history and church politics.
She was an accomplished water color artist and took lessons for many years. Each of her children and grandchildren received a painting. A highlight was winning Grand Prize in the Lititz Art Show in 1995. Above all, she enjoyed socializing and good conversations. She cherished visits from family, friends, and relatives. Ruth's children and grandchildren were the most important things in her life. She loved having five daughters and her one boy.
Surviving are five daughters: Beverly Hess of Lancaster, Janey wife of Jim Lanza of Birdsboro, Maxi wife of Fred Shirey of Oley, Kathleen wife of Gary Brubaker of Lancaster, Nancy wife of Doug Bodden of Wyomissing, a son, LaVern husband of Patsy Horning of Morgantown, Twenty grandchildren, Fifty great-grandchildren, four brothers: James husband of Helen Hess of Lititz, Thomas husband of Janice Hess of Bethel, William husband of Belinda Hess of Lititz, Herbert husband of Arlene Hess of Penryn, a sister, Grace wife of Bill Wolfgang of Pottstown, and a brother-in-law, Leon Stoltzfus of New Holland. Preceding her in death are three grandchildren: Dustin Enck, John Enck, Colin Shirey, and a sister, Nancy Stoltzfus.

GOSHEN - Allen Merle Horst, 79, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, from complications following a stroke.
He is survived by his grateful wife, Viola, of Goshen; son Adrian, South Bend; brother Ray (Violet), Virginia; a brother-in-law, John Bell, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Canada.
Allen graduated from Hesston College, Goshen College and Indiana University, Bloomington, holding degrees in history and education. He worked for two years in alternative service as a Paxman in the Belgian Congo from 1960 to 1962. This experience left a lasting impression on his life.
He enjoyed being a World Citizen and traveled often. Before his eyesight began deteriorating, Allen was an avid reader, especially in history.
Allen was an efficient, conscientious and artistic craftsman building homes in Elkhart County. This was his most satisfying and fulfilling career.
He was known by friends and family as a person of great humor, wisdom and faith. He especially enjoyed congregational singing and was a member of several choirs and quartets. Also, he was a good writer, lover of children and caretaker of nature.
Allen had great stamina and was a wonderful support for the family in times of crisis.
A memorial service and reception will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at College Mennonite Church.
Memorial contributions may be given to Mennonite Central Committee or Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart.

Horst, David S., 92, of 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, formerly of East Earl, passed peacefully into his eternal rest on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Fairmount Homes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mary (Esbenshade) Horst on Sept. 21, 2017.
Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Jacob G. and Mary Jane (Sensenig) Horst.
David had been a farmer, worked at Blue Ball Machine Co., and spent most of his working years as a machinist at Conestoga Wood Specialties.
He was a member of Lichty Mennonite Church where he served as a trustee for 27 years. He was also a member of East End Hunting Club in Lycoming County. David enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, hunting and golfing.
Surviving are five children: Elaine married to Glenn Newswanger, Myerstown, Sharon married to Henry Zimmerman, Narvon, David married to Sharon (Adams) Horst, Honey Grove, Darlene married to Edwin Ringler, East Earl, Linda married to Don Weaver, New Holland; a daughter-in-law Linda (Martin) married to Clarence Fasnacht, Leola; 19 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Luke S. married to Ruth (Lichty) Horst, Narvon.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Horst, a granddaughter, Heidi Weaver, and five siblings: Anna Hoover, Lloyd S., Isaac S., Elmer S. and J. Earl Horst.

Horst, Eugene H., 82, of Landis Homes, formerly of Bird-in-Hand, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018. Born in Brownstown, he was the son of the late Paul S. and Eva Martin Horst. He was the loving husband of Florence M. Zimmerman Horst. They observed their 59th anniversary on Sept. 19th.
Eugene was a 1954 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite School. A self-employed painter, he also had painted for Steller Painting and Papering. In later years, he operated Stumptown Transportation LLC. Eugene was a member and past trustee of James Street Mennonite Church, Lancaster. Eugene enjoyed the songs of the church, leading a cappella singing from the time of his youth and was a member along with his family of The Charlotte Street Singers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also umpired at Locust Grove for various church softball leagues.
He is survived by: his wife; three children, Mervin E. Horst, New York, NY, Darryl R. Horst, Leola, Cynthia A. Horst, Lancaster; four granddaughters, Jessica (Jeff) Kutz, Mikayla, Amanda, Sarah; a great-granddaughter, Eden Kutz; a sister-in-law, Arlene Horst, Mt. Joy. A brother, Elvin preceded him in death.

Horst, Melvin E., 89, of Sarasota, Florida died January 14, 2018 at the same place. He was born September 25, 1928 at Dalton, Wayne Co., Ohio to Albert C. and Elma (Kornhaus) Horst. On November 2, 2002 he was married to Edith Horst, who survives.
Surviving are children, Joanne (Ralph) Lehman, Melva Huebert, and Karen (Daniel) Cobb; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Raymond (Ruth Ann) Horst and Myron (Geneva) Horst.
His first wife, Pauline Martin whom he married in 1949 died 2001, and three brothers, Chester Horst, LaVerne Horst, Albert Horst Jr. preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held January 20, 2018 at Leetonia Mennonite Church, Leetonia, Columbiana Co., Ohio with burial in Midway Cemetery, Columbiana, Mahoning Co., Ohio.
Horst, Priscilla Clara, 82, of Dayton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, at her residence. Miss Horst was born Aug. 27, 1936, in Dayton, and was a daughter of the late Earl and Mary Naomi (Rhodes) Horst.
She was a homemaker and baby-sat children. Miss Horst was a member of Pleasant View Old Order Mennonite Church.
Priscilla is survived by her siblings, Fannie Mae Shirk of Ephrata, Pa., and Nathan Horst and wife, Susan, of Belleville, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Betty (Rhodes) Horst of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Miss Horst was preceded in death by her sister, Naomi Horst; two brothers, Alfred Horst and Mark Horst; and a brother-in-law, Eli Shirk.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who provided care to her throughout her illness.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Old Order Mennonite Church with the ministers of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

SHIPSHEWANA - Donald Jay Hostetler, 83, of Shipshewana, died Sunday, July 8, 2018.
He was born June 14, 1935, to Trueman and Florence (Mast) Hostetler.
He married Evelyn Joan Lambright; she preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, JoAnn Bontreger and LouAnn Sherck; two sons, Ronald and Michael Hostetler; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Yoder; and a brother, Devon Hostetler.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marjorie Hooley; and two brothers, Jay Dee and Delvon Hostetler.

WOLCOTTVILLE - Edna Mae Hostetler, 90, of Wolcottville, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018.
She was born Oct. 1, 1927, in LaGrange, to Uriah and Anna (Miller) Hochstetler.
She married Levi J. Hostetler.
Surviving are daughters Ruby Yoder, Esther Miller, Rosie Hostetler and Arlene Miller; sons Jerry and Freeman Hostetler; 22 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; sister Katie Beechy; and sister-in-law Edna Hochstetler.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons; three brothers and one sister.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

GOSHEN - Elaine F. Hostetler, 76, died Monday evening, Sept. 10, 2018, at Elkhart General Hospital, after a long journey with pulmonary fibrosis.
She was born April 5, 1942, in Wakarusa, to Maynard and Edna (Weaver) Weldy.
On Aug. 1, 1964, she married Merle D. Hostetler at Kern Road Chapel, South Bend. He survives along with two children, Eric (Lissette Gonzalez) Hostetler and their children, Evan and Siena of Collegeville, Pennsylvania and Greg (Jennifer) Hostetler and their children, Emily and Kaitlyn of Newark, Delaware, and a brother, Leland (Sigrid) Weldy of Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul Weldy and Loren Weldy; a sister-in-law, Barbara (Roth) Weldy; and twins (by miscarriage).
Elaine graduated from Wakarusa High School in 1960 and attended Goshen College.
Elaine was a dental assistant both in Elkhart and after marriage, in New York City.
She was a paraprofessional in both the Carmel-Clay school system and in the Elkhart Community Schools.
She retired in 2008 from Elkhart Community Schools.
She was a faithful Christian and member of Belmont Mennonite Church.
She loved and adored working with young children in the educational setting. She cherished time with her grandchildren and loved being with friends and family.
Elaine enjoyed and loved the wonders of nature and saw them as “God’s second Bible."
In recent years she enjoyed knitting prayer shawls for the church prayer shawl ministry, scarves for the local homeless shelter and for Mary Beck School children in Elkhart.
Visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Belmont Mennonite Church.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, in the Olive Cemetery, Wakarusa, followed by a celebration of life service at 3 p.m. at Belmont Mennonite Church, 925 Oxford St., Elkhart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Belmont Mennonite Church for Mary Beck Schools.

Hostetler, Nevin Lee, of Berryville, Arkansas, beloved son of Chancey and Tonya (Headings) Hostetler, was born January 10, 2018 in Springfield, Missouri. He peacefully passed away in the arms of his mother, surrounded by his loving family on January 12, 2018 at the age of 2 days. Baby Nevin was born with Holoprosencephaly which resulted in a harelip and cleft palate. He was constantly held and cuddled as we waited for angels to carry him Home. God was so good to lend him to us for these two special days.
Mourning his departure are his sorrowing parents, three sisters and two brothers; Shianne (16), Lance (12), Sean (8), Summer (6) Sierra (4); paternal grandparents, Clifford and Eunice Hostetler of Berryville, Arkansas; maternal grandparents, Randy and Maxine Headings, Tampico, Illinois; great grandparents, Stanley and Alta Headings, Tampico, Illinois; great grandmother, Judy Kropf, Berryville, Arkansas; great-great grandmother, Ruth Hostetler, Clarksville, Arkansas; seven uncles and six aunts.
He is preceded in death by one sister, Kristi Dawn, 14 months, who died in 2004, two aunts, Melissa Ann and Angel Rose and one cousin, Treasure Rose.

Norman "Bud" L. Hostetler, 88, of Topeka, died at 9:35 am on Wednesday, November 21 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital. He was born on August 19, 1930 in LaGrange, to Rollin and Irma (Oesch) Hostetler. On May 7, 1950 in Shipshewana he married Barbara Miller, she survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are daughter, Patti (Gary) Kauffman of Millersburg; two sons, Rick (Margaret) Hostetler of LaGrange, Ron (Colleen) Hostetler of Topeka; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Hostetler of Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Merritt Hostetler. Bud was a retired farmer and a member of Emma Church where he was a charter member of the Emma Men's Chorus. He was an MDS representative for many years. He enjoyed trottingbred harness racing and was a charter member of the LaGrange Trottingbred Association. Bud was an avid sports fan of IU
basketball, Notre Dame football, and the Chicago Bears. His first love was Westview Warriors basketball. He drove the team bus for 20 years in addition to driving school bus for Westview School. He was the first ever season ticket holder for the Westview boys basketball team. He also loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Visitation will be from 2:00- 8:00 pm on Saturday, November 24 at Emma Church, 1900 South 600 West, Topeka. Family and friends will gather at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 25 at Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana for a graveside service. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 pm at Emma Church. Services will be conducted by Pastor Gene Hartman. Memorials may be given to Menno-Clinic India.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Rosanna Yoder Hostetler, 87, died at Brandywine Hall in West Chester on Jan. 29, 2018.
Born June 9, 1930, in Elverson, Pennsylvania, to John and Anna Yoder. Rose graduated from Goshen College in Goshen.
Along with her late husband David, she served the Mennonite Church as a missionary in Brazil.
She was the manager of Provident Bookstore in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, for many years.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Ellen Yoder; brother Lester Yoder; three sons, D. Michael Hostetler (Virginia Schwartzentruber) of Kitchener, Ontario, J. Marcos Hostetler (Anita Stutzman) of Reinholds, Pennsylvania and James D. Hostetler (Sandi Hartzler) of Cassopolis, Michigan; two daughters, Marcella Hostetler (Lamonte Garber) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Monica Harnish (Steve Harnish) of Bluffton, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Scottdale Mennonite Church in Scottdale, Pennsylvania.

Hostetler, Roy Earl
January 18, 1927 - October 15, 2018 (age 91)
Roy E. Hostetler, 91, of Albany, Oregon went to be with Jesus on October 15, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene. They were married 63 years.
Roy was born in Shelbyville, Illinois to John L. and Ida Hostetler on January 18, 1927. He had two brothers, Levi and Raymond, and four sisters, Carrie, Ella Mae, Elsie, and Ruby Fern. He is survived by his sister Elsie Headings of Muscoda, Wisconsin.
Roy moved to Harrisburg, Oregon when he was 18. He met Arlene Smucker there and they married October 12, 1947. A year later they had a daughter, Karen. In 1957 they adopted another daughter, Kathi, and in 1959 adopted their son, Jim. It was very exciting for the family when they went to the Portland airport to pick up Kathi and Jim. They came from Korea through the Holt Adoption Agency.
Roy was ordained a minister on August 7, 1955. He was a pastor and evangelist until he retired. He traveled throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Canada in his evangelistic ministries. Through the years he worked at many other jobs. He farmed, raised hogs, bailed hay, sold Ford tractors and delivered motor homes throughout the U.S. and Canada. He enjoyed traveling, collecting toy tractors and having coffee with friends. He also loved sports and watched his grandsons play many football, basketball and baseball games. He had many friends and loved to visit and spend time with them.
Roy is survived by his daughter Karen Such (Steve) Salem, OR, daughter Kathi Troyer (Moses) Sarasota, FL, and son Jim Hostetler (Kaye) Albany, OR. Six grandchildren, Darin Such (Becky), Richard Such (Katie), Clint Troyer (Keisa), Derrick Hostetler (Rachelle), Brian Hostetler (Lacey), and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 21st at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The celebration of life/funeral will be Monday, October 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Mennonite Church with burial to follow at the Fairview Mennonite Cemetery.

Hostetler, Stephen Kenneth, 45, of Boelus, NE died March 25, 2018 at Omaha, NE. He was born October 27, 1972 at Grand Island, NE to Arlan David and Judy Kay (Mitchell) Hostetler.
Surviving are his parents and two brothers, David Hostetler and Michael Hostetler.
Memorial services were held March 29, 2018 at Wood River Mennonite Church, Wood River, NE with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Hostetler, Violet May Shrock
July 20, 1942 - June 3, 2018
Violet May (Shrock) Hostetler, beloved wife of Dwight Edward Hostetler, was born on July 20, 1942 to Paul and Anna (Kropf) Shrock at Geneseo, Illinois.
She peacefully passed away at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri on June 3, 2018 at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 14 days due to complications of congestive heart failure.
She was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 2 ½, living with it for over 73 years. After having a heart attack and triple bypass surgery in 2001, she recovered to a new normal. Since then, she was hospitalized with pneumonia 14 times due to a weakened heart and lungs.
She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour in her youth and was baptized in the Amish Mennonite Church, to which faith she remained faithful until her death. Her vibrant faith in the Lord was a testimony and inspiration to her family, friends, former pupils she taught and those she came in contact with.
On June 23, 1968, she was united in marriage to Dwight Hostetler, sharing the joys and sorrows of married life for almost 50 years.
She will be greatly missed by her sorrowing husband, 2 sons, Lynford & wife Eva, Miller, Missouri, Wilford & wife Katrina, Berryville, Arkansas, 2 daughters, Louise and LeVere of the home, 12 grandchildren, Wendy Hostetler, Wanda and husband Jason Hostetler, Matthew Hostetler and wife Claudia, Mahlon Hostetler and wife Sherry, Sharlene and husband Justin Miller, Sherita and Special Friend Eric Kempf, all of Miller, Missouri, Melissa and husband Jesse Kropf, Melrose and husband Josh Kropf, Grant Hostetler, Clint Hostetler, Clark Hostetler, Wilson Hostetler, all of Berryville, Arkansas, 6 great-grandchildren, Jasanda, Jevon, Audrey, Alivia, Melita and Morgan. Preceding her in death are her parents, Paul and Anna (Kropf) Shrock, 1 sister Leanna Pauline and 1 brother Virgil Shrock.
Hostetter, Dayton B., age 70, of Christiana, PA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. He was the husband of Naomi E. Nafziger King Hostetter with whom he would have celebrated 6 years of marriage on June 15th, and the late Debra L. Jones Hostetter, who passed away on December 11, 1987.
He was born in Coatesville, son of the late Donald & Verna Umble Hostetter and the stepson of Pluma King Hostetter of Lititz. He attended Maple Grove Mennonite Church of Atglen. Dayton provided transportation to the Amish Community and earlier he was self-employed as a truck driver. He loved his garden, hunting, fishing, riding his Harley and was an avid baseball pitcher. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Also surviving is a daughter Danae Lee Torres of Glendale, AZ, 2 granddaughters: Jessica Torres & Arianna Soto, stepson Jeffrey King of Downingtown, 10 siblings: Donald M. husband of Dorcas Smoker Hostetter of Ephrata, R. Huber, Bradley Nathan, infant son of Bryan N. and Michelle Ann (Stegeman) Huber, of Akron, entered into rest and was made whole in the presence of The Father on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.
In addition to his parents, Bradley is survived by paternal grandparents, Barry Nelson and Susan Louise (Campbell) Huber of Conestoga; paternal great-grandmother, Helen Huber of Willow Street and maternal grandparents, John and Anna (Harting) Stegeman of Reamstown.
Service will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in the Hess Mennonite Cemetery.

Huber, Caroline R. Eby, 69, of Columbia, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, June 3, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. She was the wife of J. LaMar Huber. They were married by her father, the late Bishop Clair B. Eby on July 5, 1969.
Caroline retired in 2015 with 38 years of service from the Westfield Group, formerly Old Guard Insurance, Neffsville, where she was a claims adjuster.
Born November 29, 1948, in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Bishop Clair B. and Verna R. (Rohrer) Eby. She was a member of Manor Church, Lancaster and most recently attended LCBC-Manheim Campus. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. Caroline also enjoyed traveling to the mountains and to the beach. Most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Also surviving are 2 children; Cynthia J., married to Stephen L. Knapik, of Brownstown and Justin M. Huber, married to Sierra N. (Snyder) Huber, of Windsor; 7 grandchildren; Mason T. Huber, John David, 79, of Rural Memphis, Missouri, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018, at his residence north of Memphis, Missouri.
John David was born on August 28, 1938, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the son of Phares and Lena Huber.
On August 30, 1958, In Myerstown, Pennsylvania, he married Edna Z. Martin, and to this union fourteen children were born.
John David and Edna left Pennsylvania and moved to Knox City, Missouri, in 1973, to farm and raise their family. Edna preceded him in death on December 10, 2007.
He was a member of the Millport Mennonite Church, near Rutledge, Missouri and later the Meadow View Mennonite Church, north of Memphis, Missouri.
On September 5, 2009, John David married Mary H. Martin at his home in rural Knox City, Missouri, and she survives at their residence north of Memphis, Missouri.

Funeral services were Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at the Millport Mennonite Church south of Rutledge, Missouri. Officiating was Abner Oberholtzer, Carl Hoover, Luke Fox, Wilson Martin, and Glenn High.
Visitation was Monday, May 7, 2018, and Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Hillcrest Mennonite Community Center south of Memphis, Missouri.
Burial was in the Millport Mennonite Cemetery, south of Rutledge, Missouri. Pallbearers were John David Hoover, Jonathan Ramer, Harlan Huber, Lamar Martin, John Earl Zimmerman, and Jacob Zimmerman.

Huber, Ruth A. Nauman, 88, of Manheim, PA, passed away on Monday morning, October 15, 2018 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim. Born in Manheim, she was the daughter of the late Abram and Helen Hertzler Nauman. She was the loving wife of Elmer E. Huber, Jr. for 64 years on March 13.
A graduate of the former Manheim High School, Ruth was employed by the former W.H. Noggle and Sons garment factory in Manheim for 20 years and retired from the former Manheim Garment Company. In addition to shopping and collecting Teddy bears, she enjoyed spending Sundays at Hershey Park and trips to the beach at Atlantic City, MD.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Nauman.
A funeral service will be held on Friday morning, October 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Hernley Mennonite Church, 746 Lebanon Road, Manheim, PA. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Hursh, Arlene M. Sensenig, 76, of Mount Joy, passed away Monday evening, August 27, 2018 at her home. She was the wife of Lester M. Hursh. They were married on March 7, 1965.
Born March 26, 1942, in Ephrata Twp., Lancaster County, [PA] she was the daughter of the late Lloyd K. and Lydia W. (Martin) Sensenig. She was a member of the Rheems Mennonite Church, Mount Joy.

Hurst, Amos W., 90, of Ephrata, formerly of Lititz, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018, at Fairmount Homes.
He was born in East Earl Township to the late Isaac Z. and Lizzie (Weaver) Hurst and was the husband of the late Martha K. (Sensenig) Hurst who passed away in March, 2018.
Amos was a member of Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference. He retired from farming and then began employment with Binkley & Hurst Bros. until he retired in 2016.
Amos is survived by 4 sons, Leonard (Laura Martin) Hurst of Lititz, Isaac (Carolyn Eberly) Hurst of Akron, Amos, Jr. (Carolyn Seibel) Hurst of Lititz, Kenneth (Dolores Rutt) Hurst of Ephrata; 4 daughters, Velma Nolt (Nelson) of Drumore, Doris Weaver (Curtis) of Ephrata, Jane Weaver of Beavertown, Nancy Hurst of Ephrata; 34 grandchildren; 104 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Phares Hurst of Ephrata; 2 brothers-in-law, Paul Nolt of Lititz; Titus Weaver of Ephrata and a sister-in-law, Edith Nolt of Ephrata.

Hurst, Annie S. Martin, 90, of 233 E. Maple Grove Rd., Narvon, died Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Esther, in Kutztown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phares S. Hurst, in 2010*.
Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Ellen (Sauder) Martin.
Annie was a homemaker and a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.
Surviving are nine children: Anna married to Lloyd Fox, Ephrata, David married to Eva (Martin) Hurst, Shippensburg, Ella widow of the late Martin Fox, Penn Yan, NY, Joseph married to Lavina (Hoover) Hurst, Plymouth, OH, Mary married to John Hoover, East Earl, Phares M. married to Marian (Martin) Hurst, Narvon, Martha married to Mervin Newswanger, East Earl, Esther married to Paul Burkholder, Kutztown, and Annetta married to Amos Z. Sauder, New Holland, 67 grandchildren, 155 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Eli S. Martin, New Holland and Aaron S. Martin, Narvon.
She was preceded in death by five siblings: Henry, David, John, Lydia and Samuel Martin, a granddaughter, Rachel Hoover and a great-grandson.
Her funeral will be held at her late home on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 9 a.m. with further services at 9:30 a.m. at Bowmansville Mennonite Church with Bishop Elam Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at her late home on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Kindly omit flowers. Hurst, Jiana Leigh, 15, of Rome, Pennsylvania died March 7, 2018, with the sudden and unexpected passing. Jiana was welcomed into our hearts on Sept. 23, 2002, the daughter of Jeffrey L. and Jan E. (Martin) Hurst. She was currently in the 10th grade at the Union Valley Christian School and was a member of the Union Valley Mennonite Church. Jiana had a great zest for life, she had a great love for animals, enjoyed playing the piano and was a friend to all those she met.
She will be greatly missed by her parents, Jeff and Jan Hurst; her siblings, Janissa Nicole Hurst, Jeffrey Austin Hurst, Joelle Danae Hurst and Joshua Leonard Hurst; her maternal grandparents, Leonard and Violet Martin of Myerstown, Pennsylvania; paternal grandparents, Daniel and Mary Jane Hurst of Myerstown, Pennsylvania; her aunts and uncles, Marlin and Lisa Zeist of Himrod, New York, John and Beth Sheaffer of Womelsdorf, Pennsylvania, Steve and Krista Esh of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Mike and Becky Fox of Kinzers, Pennsylvania, Dan and Sarah Hurst of Lititz, Pennsylvania, Lisa Hurst of Myerstown, Pennsylvania, Lori Hurst of Myerstown, Pennsylvania, Larry and Dawn Stauffer of Bethel, Pennsylvania, Leon and Amanda Horst of Bethel, Pennsylvania, Daniel and Angie Snader of Myerstown, Pennsylvania, Joey and Michelle Hurst of Bethel; several great-aunts and great-uncles; and 24 cousins.
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A period of visitation will also be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday, March 12, at the Independent Bible Church, 109 Cherry St., Towanda, Pennsylvania. A funeral service, and time of remembering the gift Jiana was to all of us, will follow at 10 a.m. with pastors Bernell Burkholder Sr., Bernell Burkholder Jr., Melvin Weaver and Steve Groff officiating. Hurst, Martha K. Sensenig, 90, of Ephrata, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018, at Fairmount Homes.
She was born in East Earl to the late Isaac G. and Katie (Kurtz) Sensenig and was the wife of Amos W. Hurst, Sr. with whom she shared 70 years of marriage.
Martha was a homemaker and a member of Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.
In addition to her husband, Martha is survived by 4 sons, Leonard (Laura Martin) Hurst of Lititz, Isaac (Carolyn Eberly) Hurst of Akron, Amos, Jr. (Carolyn Seibel) Hurst of Lititz, Kenneth (Dolores Rutt) Hurst of Ephrata; 4 daughters, Velma Nolt (Nelson) of Drumore, Doris Weaver (Curtis) of Ephrata, Jane Weaver of Beavertown, Nancy Hurst of Ephrata, a brother-in-law Jonas Nolt of Newville; 34 grandchildren; 103 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jay Melvin Weaver; 2 grandchildren, Kendra Hurst and Joshua Weaver; 5 brothers, Lloyd, Allen, Rufus, Isaac and John Sensenig and 3 sisters, Vera (Mahlon) Martin, Katie (Jacob) Reiff, Alta Nolt. She was the last of her immediate family.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, at the Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center, 352 Martindale Road, Martindale. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018, at 8:45 at the Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center, with further services at 9:30 AM, from the Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, 200 Meadow Valley Road, Ephrata, with Bishop Lester B. Martin and Ministers Elam Ray Martin, Gary Zimmerman and Jay Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.

Hurst, Marvin M., 81, of Denver, died Saturday, July 21, 2018 at his home after a brief illness while under the care of Hospice & Community Care.
Born in Caernarvon Twp., Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Noah and Eva (Martin) Hurst. He was married 60 years on Feb. 8 to Ella (Weaver) Hurst.
Marvin began his career as a farmer but later worked the last 30 years for Earl R. Martin Trucking in East Earl until his retirement in 2003.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 9 children, Eugene Hurst of East Earl, Virginia, married to Marlin Bauman of Elmira, Ontario, Canada, Galen, married to Lena (Shirk) Hurst of Charlotte Court House, VA, Pauline, married to Earl Martin of Stevens, Karen, married to Wilmer Martin of New Holland, Melvin, married to Linda (Hoover) Hurst of Denver, Dennis, married to Sue (Hurst) Hurst of Denver, Rhonda, married to Stephen Hurst of Lititz, and Dawn, married to Gabriel Beachy of Cedar Creek, TX; 45 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 5 sisters, Emma, married to John Zimmerman of Myerstown, Irene, married to Richard Good of Denver, Mabel Long of East Earl, Elsie, married to Charles Childers of Lorain, OH, and Luella Vanpelt of Columbiana, OH; and a brother, Chester, married to Kathy (Snader) Hurst of Terre Hill.
Preceding him in death is a granddaughter, Sarah Hurst; 5 brothers, Melvin, Edwin, Walter, Earl, and Raymond Hurst; and a sister, Mary Nolt.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 26 at 9 am at the Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center with further services at 9:30 at Martindale Mennonite Church with the Bishop Amos G. Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 25 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Fairmount Homes Farm Crest Chapel, 1100 Farm Crest Dr., Ephrata.
